The overall effect of listening to current rap music is that the affected people will develop a tendency of communicating using the same language they get exposed to in the music they listen. Even though listening to such rap music is associated with negative implication to the members of the society, it can contribute to high levels of appreciation of modern form communication thus not all rap music should be shunned from the society. A Growing Population: Problem or Excuse? The current worldwide population is around 6.9 billion and is expected to reach 9 billion by 2050 (Baird). This projected population number is down from the once predicted 16 billion (Baird) and while some are not concerned others are worried by any increase in population. Population growth is discussed in the articles ââ¬Å"Too Many People?â⬠by Vanessa Baird; ââ¬Å"Population Control: How Can There Possibly Be Too Many of Us?â⬠by Frank Furedi; and ââ¬Å"The Population Bomb Revisited,â⬠by Paul R. Ehrlich and Anne H. Ehrlich. McCabe Puritan doctrine taught that all men are totally depraved and require constant self-examination to see that they are sinners and unworthy of Gods Grace. Because man had broken the Covenant of Works when Adam had eaten from the Tree of Knowledge, God offered a new covenant to Abrahams people which held that election to Heaven was merely a possibility. In the Puritan religion, believers dutifully recognized the negative aspects of their humanity rather than the gifts they possessed. This shadow of distrust would have a direct influence on early American New England and on many of its historians and writers, one of which was Nathaniel Hawthorne. The influence of Puritan religion, culture and education along with the setting of his hometown of Salem, Massachusetts, is a common topic in Nathaniel Hawthornes works. In particular, Hawthornes Young Goodman Brown allows the writer to examine and perhaps provide commentary on not only the Salem of his own time but also the Salem of his ancestors. Growing up Hawthorne could not escape the influence of Puritan society, not only from residing with his fathers devout Puritan family as a child but also due to Hawthornes study of his own family history. The first of his ancestors, William Hathorne, is described in Hawthornes The Custom House as arriving with the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1630 with his Bible and his sword (26). A further connection can also be seen in his more notable ancestor John Hathorne, who exemplified the level of zealousness in Puritanism with his role as persecutor in the Salem Witch Trials. In looking into the history of Salem and especially early Puritan society Hawthorne is able to discuss the merits and consequences of such zeal, especially the zeal of the Half-Way Covenant of 1662, the Puritan Catechism of John Cotton, and the repercussions of The Salem Witch trials. Hawthorne sets ââ¬Å"Young Goodman Brownâ⬠into a context of Puritan rigidity and self-doubt to allow his contemporary readers to see the consequences of such a system of belief. Hawthorneââ¬â¢s tale places the newly wed Puritan Brown upon the road to what may or may not be a true conversion experience. The conversion experience ââ¬â a sudden realization brought about by divine intervention, a vision, or perhaps a dream ââ¬â easily translates into the dream allegory of Hawthorneââ¬â¢s work and allows the author to use Puritan doctrine and the history of Salem to argue the merits and consequences of such a belief. Major issues and themes of Puritanism must have been researched and delicately placed into Hawthorneââ¬â¢s discussion of not only past consequences of Puritan zeal but also on the contemporary religious issue of his own time, the Second Great Awakening. Much like the nighttime witches Sabbath that awaits Goodman Brown, the tent revivals of the 1820ââ¬â¢s and 1830ââ¬â¢s could be seen by the questioning Hawthorne as another attempt by the church to sway its membership towards total obedience and faith. The importance placed on this event by Goodman Brown shows the importance placed on the conversion experience itself. It can be argued that the Half-Way Covenant ââ¬â itself a means by which Puritanism attempted to hold onto its congregation ââ¬â as an antagonist cast further doubt onto the later generations of Puritan society. As the second generation of Puritans were born in America they lacked the zealousness of the first. Waning membership within the congregation made what would come to be known as the Half-Way Covenant an attempt by the church to solve this problem. The Covenant allowed the children of church members to be baptized and become part of the congregation, thus bolstering membership. But in order to be a full member and receive communion the conversion experience was still necessary. Much like the ââ¬Å"journeyâ⬠in which Brown placed so much significance, the fact that further doubt was now placed upon new members of the church would cause later problems in Puritan society and Salem itself. In a further attempt to deal with lack of zeal within the church, church hierarchy controlled not only the congregationââ¬â¢s culture and laws, but also its education. In order to stress the consequences of such an education ââ¬â one that would teach a child that man was not only suspect but also guilty of depravity Hawthorne would have most likely relied on Puritan educational history as a setting for the newly married Browns self-examination. In the setting of the tale, Brown would fall under the Half-Way Covenant, and his education under Goody Cloyse in part fosters the need within Brown to enter the forest at night and seek the true conversion experience that would allow him full membership. As Benjamin Franklin V states in Goodman Brown and the Puritan Catechism, Hawthorne used John Cottons Milk for Babes as the education source of Goodman Brown. It was the Puritan belief that man must be instructed to realize his own depravity, and therefore at childhood the education began. In order to understand Browns own background as it pertains to his duty as a Puritan, Franklin returns to Cottons original Catechism. Video Games And Aggression As technology continues to forge ahead concerns about its effects on the populace are raised. Whether it be microwave ovens causing cancer or cell phones causing accidents, people are always interested in researching, and often condemning, these new products. Such is this case with videogames. Ever since Pong? swept the nation, scholars have been researching videogames effects on children. The most popular aspect of videogame research is whether or not games increase aggression. A video game is any console or PC based interactive game, aggression is any thoughts or behaviors related with the intention to cause harm. Contrary to popular belief, there is no reliable correlation between videogames and aggression. Claims are the backbone to a study; they are both the starting point and the goal. Cooper and Mackie (1986) sought to discover if a highly violent game would affect 4th and 5th grade kids differently than a nonviolent game or a paper-and-pencil game. Tamborini et all (2000) predicted that aggressive thoughts and behaviors would be highest amongst those playing a violent virtual reality game followed by those playing a violent standard game, followed by those playing a nonviolent standard game. Derek (1995) was interested in what effect, if any, playing violent games would have on aggressiveness in different personality types. Ballard and Weist (1996) researched whether the level of violence in a game would affect peoples responses on a hostility questionnaire. Sherry (2000) performed a meta-analysis on 25 video game/aggression studies; he wanted to see if there was any credence to the claims. All five studies are very similar in their intent. They mostly focus on whether the level of immersion (via different hardware, violent content, and/or graphics) affects the level of aggression. To understand a study one must understand the definitions used within that study. All five studies use the same general definition of a videogame that the general public uses; an interactive game played on a television or monitor whereby onscreen objects can be manipulated through the use of a controller. Violent video games are those that involve death and destruction to things resembling reality and/or fantasy. Definitions of aggression, however, differ. Cooper and Mackie (1986) used a childs toy selection and distribution of reward/punishment as an indicator of aggression. Tamborini et all (2000) consider aggression to be hostile thoughts. Derek (1995) defines aggression as a mindset that includes seven subcategories (the Buss-Durkee Inventory): assault, irritability, indirect hostility, negativism, resentment, suspicion, and verbal hostility. Ballard and Weist (1996) use the word hostility instead of aggression. In this case it refers to thoughts of defensiveness, dominance, aggr ession, self-confidence, nurturance, and autonomy. Sherry (2000) just says, and some form of aggressiveness as the dependant variable. The Cooper and Mackie study and the Sherry study are the only two that incorporate behavior in their definition of aggressiveness. All of the others deal only with thoughts, but are quite similar in their intent. The real make-or-break portion of research is the method in which you seek and categorize the data. Cooper and Mackie (1986) took 84 4th and 5th graders from New Jersey. They had equal numbers of boys and girls separated into three groups. One group played the violent game Missile Commander (a cheesy game where you shoot lasers at little dots representing bombs falling on a city), another played Pac Man (which we all know and love), and the control group solved mazes with pencil and paper. After 8 minutes of game play the kids were told to select a toy to play with while the researcher did some work (the researcher was actually observing how long the child play with each toy. They could select a Shogun warrior (a violent toy), Nerf basketball (an active toy), Lincoln Logs (a quiet game), or pop-up pinball (a skill game). Which toy the child selected acted as an indicator of mindset. After the play session the children were told to hold down a button to indicate the length of a time a child should be punished for various acts of insubordination. Eric tried to help her out, he gave her some money, stolen money from his dads office. One day while Eric was drunk he let slip to Eva where the money had come from she wouldnt take anymore and refused to see me again. After confessing all to the inspector, it was his mothers turn, but when he found out that Eva had been to visit his mothers committee for help he was astounded and tried to shift the blame of Evas death over to his mother. Then you killed her, she came to you to protect me and you turned her away- yes and you killed her, it almost sounded as if he was trying to convince himself as well as his mother. Eric was left feeling guilty and responsible as though he had caused the whole thing and not just contributed to the sequence of events. : Sheila Birling was a pretty girl in her early twenties, she liked life and was always rather excited.à Before the inspector arrived Sheila was very happy as Gerald (of Croft unlimited) had just announced their engagement and just given her the ring. The family was in the middle of a celebratory drink and Sheila and Gerald were listening to her father speak.à Sheila was in on the discussion between the inspector, Gerald, Arthur and her brother Eric. She was immediately told to run along by her father. Sheila objects to her parents attempts to protect her from the truth and refuses to leave until she is told what was going on. Im not a child dont forget. Ive a right to know. Once the inspector had finished filling her in on the information she was astonished, especially when she heard that her father could be partly responsible for the girls tragic death, She said I cant help thinking about this girl destroying herself so horribly- and I have been so happy tonight, Oh I wish you hadnt told me! What was she like? Quite youngà Sheila seemed a very concerned person considering she didnt, as yet, know who was involved. She is impressionable and deeply affected by the inspectors news.à The inspector goes on to tell Sheila that Eva Smith got a job, at Milwards after she was sacked from her fathers factory but after only a couple of months in this new job she was sacked again in January. As soon as the inspector said this to Sheila she asks to see a picture of the girl involved. She looks closely, recognizes it with a stifled sob and runs out. Sheila returned to the room a few moments later and says you knew it was me all the time, didnt you? Sheila explained how she had gone in to try a dress, even though she knew the dress wouldnt suit her. Eva held up the dress and it suited her, she was the right type, just as I was the wrong type. Sheila caught sight of this girl smiling at Miss. Francis as if to say doesnt she look awful. Sheila was instantly jealous of the way Eva looked and so Sheila used all of the power she had to punish the girl because of the way she made her feel. It didnt seem to be a very terrible thing at the time but Sheila did also say that she felt bad about the incident at the time but feels much worse about it now. After Sheila had the girl sacked she changed her name to Daisy Renton. Sheila was also left feeling responsible for what happened, She abused her power in much the same way as her father did but she was also left knowing her fianc was a liar who had another lady on the side, her brother being the illegitimate father of the unborn child and with a very unforgiving mother. Sheila is left knowing she is a vain and spiteful girl.à Sheila wanted the whole affair to be exposed and the truth to be discovered, She was the first to admit her guilt and express regret for her actions, She was open about her brothers drink problem and Alderman Meggartys unpleasant reputation. She acted as the familys conscience and was very critical of her father. Before the inspector enters Mrs. Birling is confident and rather pleased with herself. She thinks that her family is above others especially people in Eva Smiths class. Mrs. Birling is also rather naive and takes offence rather easily.à When the inspector questions her she tries to put across the fact that she is in charge, She puts on her airs and attempts to make out that they are above all this ridicule. Sheila tries to put her in her place, You mustnt try to build up a wall between us and that girl. Mrs. B is always quick to defend her family and remind everyone of her husbands position You know of course that my husband was Lord Mayor only two years ago, and that he is still a magistrate. When faced with the matter of Erics drinking she again denies it It isnt true, you know him Gerald and youre a man, you must know it isnt true. She tells the inspector that her son isnt used to drinking and that hes only a boy which shows us a signal of the shattering of her illusionsà The inspector shows Mrs. B a photo of Daisy Renton, sà She tries to say that she hasnt seen the girl before but her face says otherwise. The inspector jogs her memory back to two weeks ago to a meeting at the Brumley Womens Charity Organization to which Daisy Renton went for help. Mrs. B turned Daisy down for help, one of the contributing factors was that instead of the girl using her real name she tried to pass herself off as Mrs. Birling. I think it was simply a piece of gross impertinence, quite deliberate and naturally that was one of the things that prejudiced me against her caseà Mrs. B wouldnt take any blame for the girls death, She did, however admit that the girl had been refused, under her influence I didnt like her manner-shed impertinently made use of our nameà Daisy Renton had gone to the committee for help because she was pregnant and even knowing this Mrs. B turned her away telling her to go and look for the father of the child, its his responsibility. Mrs. B didnt like the way the girl acted, She was claiming elaborate fine feelings Even when Sybil found out that the girl had been given stolen money by the father she still refused to believe the legitimacy of her story. After all of this, Sybil still believes she had nothing to do with the death If the girls deaths due to anyone then its due to him, meaning the babys father who just happens to be here son! Sybil said that her own conscience was clear because the girl was not a deserving case, she admits that she had used her influence to have Evas application for help refused. She says that Eva only had herself to blame. At the beginning of the play Gerald is a very happy man. He has just proposed to Sheila and she accepted they were celebrating with a small family engagement drink. Gerald wants so much to be a part of their family In fact, I insist upon being one of the family now, Ive been waiting long enough, havent I?à Gerald knows Arthur Birling is a very pompous man so when he is told about Birlings chance of a knighthood he responds Oh-I say- Congratulations.à When the inspector enters and tells them all of Evas suicide he produces a photo of Eva Smith and shows Birling, but when Gerald tries to see it the inspector pulls it away. Dyou mind if I give myself a drink Sheila?à When Sheila questions Gerald on Daisy Renton he At first denies knowing her, Why should I know her? but after more persistence from Sheila he admits it, all right I knew her, lets leave it at that. Sheila works out it was more than just friends. Gerald repliesà Im sorry Sheila. But it was all over and done with last summer, I hadnt set eyes the girl for at least six months, I dont come into this suicide business. Gerald tries to get Sheila to keep it to herself. Yes- we can keep from him- he has obviously been doing more than hes letting on. The inspector badgers Gerald into telling him about his relationship. He confessed to meeting Sheila at the Palace Bar.à I happened to look in one night after a long dull day, and as the show wasnt very bright I went down into the bar for a drink which was a favorite haunt for the women of the town.à Gerald talks about meeting her, seeing her for the first time,à I hate those hard eyed dough faced women, but then I noticed a girl who looked quite different. Short icebreakers and warm up activities involving quick movements helped to keep the energy levels maintained. I have found these very useful as it brings in a cheerful atmosphere in the classroom. Historical Themes Schindlers List Essay Light can still be found even in the darkest of times; Oskar Schindler shows this through his actions during the Holocaust. In the novel Oskar Schindlerââ¬â¢s portrayed his motives and ways one man can help thousands of the struggling Polish Jews. What he did absolutely contradict what his country and leader wanted; they were planning to eradicate all Jews from the face of the Earth. By using his factory as a place for the helpless Jews to work, he avoided thousands from being sent to the concentration camps where they would work as slaves and eventually die. At first Schindler liked the idea of Polish workers but after he found out what Hitlerââ¬â¢s true intentions were he quickly felt remorse for them and determined himself to save as many as humanly possible. He began employing more and more Jews, he saved thousands of lives but ruined his business in doing so. Schindlerââ¬â¢s List by Thomas Keneally brilliantly portrayed the courage and human spirit in one man in the midst of terrible evil. Schindler proved the difference that one man can make by using his wit against the Nazis. Without the historical validity incorporated into the novel, the themes and overall story would not be up as great as it is already. Hitlerââ¬â¢s Nazi regime ran a dictatorship with Adolf Hitler at the very head of the tyranny. Hitlerââ¬â¢s master plan led to hopefully conquering the world and creates his version of society with perfect people and culture. Starting with the invasion of Poland he took Jews from their homes and forced them to do tedious work as slaves in concentration camps claiming that it was for their own protection. He tore families apart, and treated them with indignity in the camps by giving them very little food and forcing public nudity. Entire clans or families died at the order of the Nazis and no mercy could be seen from them as they killed the Jews in ways which would be seen as cruel and evil, even to humans. These events led to the deaths of six million Jewish citizens during World War II. Jewsââ¬â¢ murders took place in many various ways; one way was in gas chambers disguised as showers. Corpses and left over residues burned in huge infernos that made it snow ashes of people. Human remains were also being used for the benefit of the Nazis; they used skin and lamp shades, hair as insulation, and skin also as a type of paper. Many Jewish families were desperate to not find themselves in the terrible camps that they did everything they could not to be captured and sent to their demise. Thomas Keneally describes the setting of Germany in the novel very accurately to the time period, and also the social status that some people had at the time. Germans lived being treated very normally by all soldiers of Hitlerââ¬â¢s rule, but all others were treated as second class citizens or actually sub human. In the eyes of the Nazis Jews must be the lowest of the low to the, they were considered not as human but as some kind of sub species below all other humans. This aspect that was included in the novel is very true to history in Germany for 1943. Owning businesses or running one was against the law for any Jewish citizen. Many businesses burned down to the ground at the hand of the soldiers, ruining even wealthy land owners and workers. During World War II over six million Jews were killed by the Nazis and that is a fact included into the novel also. After the rest of European Jews heard about the genocide of Jews they and many others began hiding and helped hide people to avoid capture. People did everything to save themselves and others, some hid in the attics of Germans or in the barn of farmers. They started to become desperate to hide; Oskar Schindler used his very own factory where he produced pottery as a way to protect the Polish Jews. Oskar Schindlerââ¬â¢s career led him to becoming a business man and entrepreneur in the pots and pans industry. His factory had become very successful because of the labor force provided by the Jews that were crowded into cities by the Nazis. In 1942 the Nazis really did begin to round up all the available Jews into ghettos or slums in the city to contain them like in the concentration camps. At the same time as Oskar Schindler a lady named Irena Sendler helped to save over two thousand Jewish children from the ghettos that the Nazis set up for them. . She and many others helped humanity by using their intellect, courage, and resources. If an event like this happened in any other time period it just would not be the same. Thomas Keneallyââ¬â¢s Schindlerââ¬â¢s List showed how one person can make a giant difference for many people. His novelââ¬â¢s historical aspects were accurate in most ways, it helped to enforce the themes in the story of the human spirit and one man can make a change. Throughout history it has been proven that if one person does one change it can help thousands of peoplesââ¬â¢ lives forever. Adolf Hitler and his attempt to eradicate the Jewish population is the darkest time in history of humanity. But still, light can be found in the midst of total darkness and evil.

The second section of the chapter will compare different research methodologies. Different opinions from writers are presented and critically compared to provide the reader with sound knowledge about quantitative, qualitative and mixed methodologies. This is followed by the justification of the specific methodology, which will be used in-order to investigate the specific case study. In the middle part of the chapter, research strategy, research design, the sample size of the research, rejected methods and procedures will be discussed followed by the selection of specific research method to collect information from the FLMs in focus group and HR manager is discussed in-detail. The next part of the research is to discuss how to ensure validity of data. Validity and reliability of data is very essential of any research. Data collected from multiple sources can be cross-referenced to ensure the research is valid. At the end of the chapter limitation of the research will be discussed followed by ethical issues, which will be considered during the extensive research. 3.2 Research Philosophies In the following section different research approaches and philosophies are discussed which were considered during the detail literature review. First of the approach considered was the epistemological approach which is a part of philosophy that asks questions such as what can we know? or what can we be sure of? and questions such as How do we get beyond opinions and data to the real facts and knowledge?. The realistic objectivity is based around what is know about the HR function in the specific case study, its strategy, formal structure and systems that managers have to work within and what could be considered as constants. The subjective entities of the conceptual framework i.e capacity development, mentoring, support and coaching mechanism, overall involvement in the policy and procedures formulation and handling difficult issues related to grievance disciplinary and sickness absenteeism policies that are not easy to measure and are not fixed or constant. They can only be fully understood through interpretivist means as this part of the conceptual framework assumes that reality isnt always observable and in this instance that is very much dependant on the human relationships between HR advisors, FLMs and managed staff. Using the approach HR and devolution of role to FLM can be implemented in the specific case study and different stakeholders can interpret the actual HR role and responsibilities that it contains, in different ways i.e. it is more subjective by nature. 3.3 Comparison between Qualitative, Quantitative and Mixed Method According to (Denzin, Norman K. Lincoln, Yvonna S. (Eds.). (2005) in social sciences quantitative research is often contrasted with qualitative research which is the examination, analysis and interpretation of observations for the purpose of discovering underlying meanings and patterns of relationships. The qualitative research doesnt involve mathematical models although, it has been argued again and again that the two go hand in hand. Some writers always argue that there was a disagreement about the proper place of qualitative versus quantitative research. The new method of qualitative research evolved to address the perceived problems with reliability and imprecise modes of data analysis. Both the research methodologies have a different assumption about the world. According to (Taylor Bogdan, 1984) Quantitative research is based on a positivist philosophy, which assumes that there are social facts with an objective reality apart from the beliefs of individuals. Qualitative resear ch is rooted in a phenomenological paradigm, which holds that reality is socially constructed through individual or collective definitions of the situation. The second major comparison between both the approaches was done perfectly by (Richard Cook, 2003) where the writers explains that quantitative study portrays a world of variables and static states whereas qualitative study describes people acting in events or a program. The writer gave an example of how director tells using hiring interviews to encourage staff to actively sell services or an informant tells about the political battles that led to the legislation governing sales. The writer further argues that differences presented between qualitative and quantitative studies having different descriptive strengths. The quantitative study assesses the magnitude of relationships more precisely. One can say rather clearly that 61% of the variance in student learning is explained. The qualitative study concludes with more ambiguous statements like strong leadership is necessary, but not sufficient for excellence. The author further highlights the issues of approach regarding these research methodologies where the quantitative researcher typically employs experimental or correlational designs to reduce error, bias, and other noise that keeps one from clearly perceiving social facts. The prototypical qualitative study is the ethnography, which helps the reader understand the definitions of the situation of those, studied. The author investigate the issue of purpose regarding the research methodologies where quantitative research seeks to explain the causes of changes in social facts, primarily through objective measurement and quantitative analysis. Qualitative research is more concerned with understanding the issue and viewpoints. (Lindlof, T. R., Taylor, B. C. 2002) emphasis that quantitative study persuades by de-emphasizing individual judgment and stressing the use of established procedures. While the lang uage of hypothesis testing is avoided, the impression is given that the whole study is a disciplined exploration of a pre-existing conceptual framework where is qualitative study there is less attention is given to describing procedures and how individual judgment is disciplined in the qualitative study. The study is presented as frankly exploratory. The strategy is one of comparing pairs of agencies known to be different in order to discover what might explain those differences. The search is not described as strongly controlled by pre-existing theory. There is no preliminary model. Instead, reference to past research is incorporated into the presentation of findings. Quantitative research designs are characterized by the assumption that data, evidence, and rational considerations shape knowledge (Horna, 1994). Qualitative research designs are those that are associated with interpretative approaches, from the informants point of view, rather than ethically measuring discrete, observable behavior (Jones, 1997). Neither quantitative, nor qualitative method, however, is superior over the other, for each has its own strengths and weaknesses, especially when considered in relation to a particular problem. (Halfpenny, 1994) however, mentions that there is some polarity between the two methods; where quantitative approach is described as hard, objective and rigorous; the other is considered to be soft, subjective and speculative. At the same time, many researchers have shown that both the approaches may complement each other (Burgess, 1984) and may be integrated in the practice of social research. Mixed methods research has thus come of age (Creswell, 2002). The most widely used term given to the concept, encompassing use of more than one method employed within one piece of research, is triangulation between methods (Creswell 2002). Whilst not arguing for a hierarchy of research methods, this third way, the mixed methodology, provides even greater strengths to the researcher, and may enhance both the quality and the perception by others, of the research. The study involved both secondary as well as primary research and concurrent triangulation approach can be adopted. It is useful as a model when a researcher uses two different methods in an attempt to confirm, cross-validate, or corroborate findings within a single study (Creswell, 2002). Creswell also emphasizes that this model generally uses separate quantitative and qualitative methods as a means to offset the weaknesses inherent within one method with the strengths of the other method. 3.4 Research Strategy: Justification of Methodology The study is an effort to explore the barriers preventing successful devolvement of Human Resource Management to First Line Manager in specific case study (in Pakistan Textile Industry). The research will provide analogy by comparing the views and experiences of FLMs against the HR Manager to identify the key barrier that are preventing successful devolvement of Human Resource Management to the Front Line Manager. The study also provides a constructive conclusion on the impact of devolved Human Resource on the FLMs and the organisation itself. The methodology, which will be employed, in this research will draw the existing knowledge, utilising the conceptual model and the most crucial is the researchers experience working in this textile industry will be very useful. Still there will be questions which will still need more detail answers so open semi structure interview will be used that will be directed towards the FLMs (See Appendix B:I for semi-structure interview). After the data is collected from FLMs, the semi-structure interview will be conducted (asking the same set of questions) with the HR manager to compare the views and experiences so that we can identify the key barriers that are preventing successful devolution of human resources responsibilities to the FLMs (See Appendix B:I). This approach will collect information qualitative in nature, rather than any numerical collection of data or explanation based on the attributes of the graph or source of data. As reinforced by (Guba, E. G., Lincoln, Y. S. 2005) Qualitative research is often used for policy and current working procedures since it can answer certain important questions more efficiently and effectively than quantitative approaches. Qualitative approaches have the advantage of allowing for more diversity in responses as well as the capacity to adapt to new developments or issues during the research process itself so it would be more suitable to use in the research project to investigate the current problem. So qualitative methodology would be more suitable as reinforced by (Richard Cook, 2003) where author highlights the difference between two methodologies where the quantitative researcher typically employs experimental or correlational designs to reduce error, bias, and other noise that keeps one f rom clearly perceiving social facts. The prototypical qualitative study is the ethnography, which helps the reader understand the definitions of the situation of those, studied. The qualitative study is more concerned with the understanding of the issues and viewpoints of the people and issues related to them. The study is based on the specific case study (in Pakistan Textile Industry). According to (Fisher, 2007), case study approach will enable a holistic account of the subject, which will help to investigate and explore relationships between the experiences of FLMs against the HR Manager. The study will try to answer the questions whether the expectation from different stakeholders was expectable and justifiable? What are issues related to the devolution of HR responsibilities to FLMs? Did both the main stakeholder agreed or disagreed on the key barriers to the successful devolvement of HR responsibilities to FLMs? Were key players able to carry out their duties due to these barriers? What were the underlying reasons if there are any key barriers to the successful devolution of HR responsibilities. This is particularly the case for understanding how and why certain outcomes were achieved (not just what was achieved) but also answering important questions about the functions and procedures of HR and their relationship with the FLMs. Also to explore the impact on FLMs being able to take HR role effectively, and identifying the key barriers in the overall devolvement of HR. This will be achieved by using semi-structure interviews from the FLMs. These types of research can be expensive and time-consuming to conduct, many fields of research employ qualitative techniques that have been specifically developed to provide more succinct, cost-efficient and timely results. For this research, a specific case study is used which provide a single case holistic approach. The research is focused on investigating the barriers preventing successful devolvement of Human Resource Management to First Line Manager in specific case study (in Pakistan Textile Industry). The other major reason of using the specific case study is, that we can collect multiple views from different stakeholders, which are involved in the organisation. The multiple views from different FLMs and HR manager can give a detailed insight about the organisation and allow the researcher to understand fully the issues related to the research topic. The research focus on the FLMs only not the staff and would like to investigate the barriers to the effective HR devolvement . One more key benefit of using the case study is that it provides easy approach to the FLMs to get their opinion and then to broaden the knowledge after the semi-structure interviews then involve the experiences of HR manager with the semi-structure interview to understand the underlying key issues and barriers that are effecting the overall successful devolution process. The main drawback with a single case study is that it doesnt allow any sort of comparison or critical evaluation of responses from other research case. This can be limited if the research wants to draw conclusion from another case study. 3.5 Research Strategy for the Specific Case Study The following section will discuss the strategy and analysis process that has been formulated and will be used in the research. The analysis process describes the basic elements of data analysis and interpretation and its fluid. First of the research is based on a specific case study which will provide a holistic account of the issues related. The case study approach will allow to understand the overall situation and have a sound knowledge how these entities interact with each other and their relationship. To gain detail understanding of all the issues around the devolvement of HR this can only be achieved using semi-structured interviews and qualitative questionnaires due to time constraints and the limited access time to FLMs working for the case study. The research is not looking to compare the individual FLMs against each other or compare different departments against each other. The main focus of the study is to consider FLMs as a single entity or element and identify and explor e the barrier in the overall devolvement process. Then HR Manager will be asked about the key barriers that are affecting the devolution of HR responsibilities to FLMs. These difference of experiences and opinion will be compared and contrasted to find the problem. The good analysis of data depends completely on understanding the data that has been gathered and having in-depth knowledge about the issues related to the problem that is being investigated. During the qualitative analysis the data gathered should be studied in-detail and also any noticeable impression should be recorded which can be further investigated from different focus groups of FLMs. The focus should be on the quality of data because sometimes information provided doesnt add any meaning or value. The process of detailed evaluation and analysis will lead to what you want to find out. This will identify few key questions that you want your analysis of the research to answer. This will be noted and help to decide how to begin. The key questions can change but the focus will be maintained. In this approach the focus will be to analyze how individuals or focused group responded to the open ended questions. This stage will be crucial because all the responses will be collected in o rder to identify the consistency and differences. The data from each question will be put together. Then the researcher will explore the connection and relationships between questions and their responses collected. During different research various methods are used to categorize information such as coding the data or indexing the data. To bring the real meaning to the data collected different key themes or pattern will be organized based on ideas, concepts, behaviours, interactions or key phrases. Then organisation into coherent categories will be summarized and bring meaning to the text. This process can be very time consuming and labour intensive depending on the amount of data that will be collected. The process has to be thorough and the data collected will be re-read multiple times to identify the coherent categories or key themes. The key themes will get the focus of the study and areas that need further investigation. In the research using the preconceived themes or categorie s, you read through the text and find the themes or issues that recur in the data. This approach allows the categories to emerge from the data. These categories or key themes are defined after you have worked with the data or as result of working with data. The initial list of categories can change as you work with the data and investigate further. This is an iterative process and some new themes can emerge or different subcategories can emerge to get the focus. As you are organizing the data into different key themes and categories either by the questions you will begin to see the key pattern and connections both within and between the key themes. Assessing the relative importance of different themes will be crucial for the analysis of data. To identify which categories appear to be more important, you can count the number of times particular themes comes up, or the number of unique respondents who refer to certain themes. These count can provide a very rough estimation of relative importance of key themes. Also during the analysis of data you can find that two or more themes that can occur together consistently in the data. When one theme is found the other appears automatically. It can be cause and effect relationship or create sequence through time. For example, respondents may link that the barriers to successful devolution to HR are because of certain reason whereas another focus group repeat the same shows the cause effect relationshi p. These connections if identified are important to look for, because they can explain why something is happening and helps to identify the problem and better understanding of the underlying issues. Then the researcher should ask himself how do things relate with each other? What are the key themes and what relationship they have with each other? What can be other factors that may contribute? Then they key themes and connections will explain the findings. The researcher will avoid to get side tracked by the details and the rich description in the data and focus on the important issues and key relationships that are being investigated in the research. The interpretation of data will take place provide meaning and significance to the analysis of data. The good place to initiate is to develop a list of key points or important findings that will be discovered as a result of categorisation of key themes and sorting the data. Then the next phase of analysis of data is to stand back and th ink about what you have learned. What are the major lessons? What new things that have been learnt due to the process? In the final part of the analysis development of an outline presenting the results and writing the final report. The report can include quotes or descriptive examples to illustrates the points and bring the data to real existence. The length and format of the report will depend on the target audience. Sometimes to support the description of the information different diagrams with boxes and arrows can fit all the pieces together. By creating models may reveal gaps in your investigation and connection that remain unclear. These areas can be investigated for further study. 3.6 Selection of Research Methods In-order to investigate the study; research methods, which will be used, are as follows for Initially semi-structured interviews with focus groups of FLMs will be conducted. The semi-structure interviews via a series of three focus group (4 FLMs in each focus group. Total 12 FLMs). Each semi-structure interview with each of the focus group is designed to last for 90 minutes and will take place on 24/1/2012, 26/01/2012, 30/1/2012 FLMs are selected from different departments with wide range of experiences and different level of qualifications. 3 out 12 FLMs have university qualification whereas the remaining FLMs have basic college qualification. The semi-structure interview will be conducted at the premises of the Specific case study. During the semi-structure interview the key areas that need further explanation will be highlighted and asked from different focus group to get their opinion. Also opinion from the HR Manager will be collected as well. The themes needing further explanation telephonic interviews and emails will be used To compare and contrast the view, semi-structure interview will be conducted with the HR Manager. The same set of questions related to key themes will be asked from the HR Manager to present the finding (took place 08/02/2012). The Interview with the HR Manager is designed to last not more than 2 hours. Open Ended questions will be asked at the start of the investigation phase so that participants can feel relax. Documentation related to case study HR policies and structures will be reviewed. FLM job role will be reviewed to find out what they prefer to do Different authors and writes agree in the literature that using semi-structure interview would allow in the future to investigate more areas as they gather probing replies. This was reinforced by (Maxwell and Farquharson, 2007) semi- structure interview offer consistency in lines of enquiry with the ability to offer opportunities for further probing responses. The methods have been deployed in different researches and have earned credibility in different qualitative research. To ensure credibility of the research and data which is collected, is verified using different multiple methods and sources are used. These multiple methods will allow triangulating of the facts, which have been gathered. In the study the data from the previous chapter in the literature review will be compared against the focus group (FLMs) semi-structure interview data and further consolidated and checked during semi structure interview with HR managers responses. This will ensure all facts gathered are authent ic and valid. In-order to receive a detail feedback from the semi-structure interviews open-ended questions will be used rather than closed ended. Also using focused group will encourage all the participants to think about different emerging themes discussed and it will build on relevant themes. To follow up on different themes and issues raised during the focus group, will be investigated further with the senior HR manager. The interview will be based on issues surrounding devolved HR, and what have arisen from the interviews with FLMs. 3.7 Research Design Procedures. The aim of the study is to explore the barriers preventing successful devolvement of Human Resource Management to First Line Manager in specific case study (in Pakistan Textile Industry), which shouldnt be ignored while designing the open-ended question for semi-structure interviews. The questions were considered from a range of themes relating to the conceptual model, which was formed out of literature review. The semi-structure interviews via a series of three focus group (4 FLMs in each focus group. Total 12 FLMs). These Front Line Managers comes from different departments from the same case study. To break the barrier between the researcher and the focus group, initially during the semi-structure broad questions about the specific case study HR functions, its polices and structures will be asked and what issues they think are the barrier to successful devolvement of HR responsibilities to the FLMs. These broad and generic questions will make respondents comfortable and encourage them to engage with the overall research process. After the initial engagement then the second set of questions will be more focused around specific hard and soft elements of HR. The information collected from the FLMs focus group and themes emerging will be further investigated, compared by conducting semi-structure interview with the HR manager. The interview questions from HR manager will be the same set of questions so that experiences from all stakeholders can be compared against each other. This would be a very important opportunity to fill any gaps and press the HR managers to answer all those queries in-detail. 3.8 Rejected Approaches The following section of the study will provide the reasoning and justifications why different research approaches were rejected. The section will briefly highlight the reasons of the rejection and why a specific approach was not deemed appropriate to be used in the research for the specific case study. At the initial stages of the research, all different types of research methods as identified in both Saunders (2009) and Fisher (2007) were critical evaluated and considered but they were rejected due to certain reasons. Ground Theory was not a viable option and it was rejected because it attempts to theorise peoples subjective understanding of their world, and researchers look for these themes in interviews and observations (Fisher, 2007). According to (Glaser Strauss, 1967 and Strauss Corbin, 1990), the theory is developed inductively from a corpus of data. According to the authors if done well, this means that the resulting theory at least fits one dataset perfectly. It works in a reverse fashion as compared to traditional research and it appears at the start that its in contradiction to the scientific methods. Rather than begin with a hypothesis, the first step is data collection, through a variety of methods. From the data collected, the key points are marked with a series of codes, which are extracted from the text. The Ground Theory believe that academic understanding only arises from what the research itself tells us i.e. it is emerging theory and not based on theories chosen in-advance of the research established. This approach is not appropriate for the research for the specific case study as in the study there is a research question with set aim and objectives to be achieved and the approach will not be appropriate to be used. Whereas Action Research was rejected simply because of its explicit focus on actions, learning by doing things or a group of people identify a problems and do something to resolve it and in particular it promotes the change process, that was not the purpose of this research. The Experiment research method was rejected; as they are more align towards scientific objective studies or scientific invention. The Experiment Research is a scientific approach, which manipulates one or more variables, controls and measures any change in other variables. The approach is not suitable for the current specific case study, as it doesnt have relations with the variables or scientific objective studies. Whereas Survey Research method needs a much larger sample size. Also the research would require the use of questionnaires that would be central to being deployed, neither of which were considered appropriate because the researcher didnt want those being interviewed to be aware of any detail of what they would be asked other than them knowing that the research was in relation to HR devolvement only. The main aim of the research was to get the real answers and positions, which they didnt think would be possible with these approaches. The other two rejected methods Ethnograp hy and Archival Research were deemed to be too costly and time consuming and were not considered appropriate for research within the resources available. 3.9 Ensuring Validity, and Reliability Validity and reliability of data is very essential of any research. Data collected from multiple sources can be cross-referenced to ensure the research is valid. In the study to ensure that reliability and validity of the data collected using semi-structured interview will be further validated by structure interviews. So for this case study, the literature review has been used to highlight the major theme for open-ended questions for the qualitative semi-structure interviews. Then the outcomes from these focus group semi-structure interviews will have emerging areas and queries, which need further explanation. This can be done by designing structure interview, which are directed towards the HR senior manager who will provide further explanation. By verifying the data collected from the research it will enable the researcher to discover whether the qualitative data collected from the focus groups is telling them what they think is correct or need further explanation. 3.11 Limitation of Research This study has some limitation. There is less number of respondents available for carrying out the research. The sample size of the study is small. The time is another factors which is the limitation to carry out details research. 3.12 A consideration of any ethical or professional issues raised by your proposals. In the project choosing participants with various experiences increases the possibility of shedding light on the research question from a variety of aspects. So it would be very beneficial to involve staff member who have more experience, which can provide insight to the problems faced by textile industry. The other major professional issue, which is raised due to the research project, is the aspect of interpretation of text, which will be gathered during the interview process. According to (Patton, 1990) the text can involve multiple meanings and the researchers interpretation is influenced by his or her personal history. Since the researcher is often the one who collects the data as well as the one who performs the analysis, the question of the researchers qualifications, training and experiences is important. During the research perform a balancing act with interpretation of data. On one hand, it is impossible and undesirable for the researcher not to add a particular perspective to the phenomena under study. On the other hand, the researcher must let the text talk and not impute meaning that is not there. These issues will be considered while carrying out the research process. 3.13 SUMMARY This chapter presents a helicopter view of the research methodology used for the completion of this study. The chapter further elaborates research approach and strategy undertaken for the completion of this project. The study also highlights different data collection method used for the conduction of the research. Further more, this section also describes the analysis methodology for descriptive and qualitative research technique. Finally, the chapter also describes the limitations of the research. The next chapter will be Presentation analysis, which will present the finding of the research. Different questions will be asked in-order to investigate the problem further and the chapter will give insight to the problems and challenges faced by the industry.

Leith stood there, frozen, eyes on the gun. Finally, swallowing, he slowly lifted his gaze to my face. He was pale, so pale that he could have been on the verge of passing out. ââ¬Å"Eugenieâ⬠¦you're hurtâ⬠¦are you okay? There's blood on your bandageâ⬠¦.â⬠I didn't doubt it and didn't bother to check. ââ¬Å"Stop it. Just stop your fucking concerned act. I don't want to hear it.â⬠In the corners of my eyes, I saw the gentry girls edge their way toward me like some sort of honor guard. I started to tell them to back off, but Leith had no real magic, and I was the one with the gun. ââ¬Å"What are youâ⬠¦? It-it's not an act, I swear it. I care about you. I love you.â⬠ââ¬Å"Love me?â⬠I snarled. ââ¬Å"People in love don't fucking drug and rape other people!â⬠ââ¬Å"It wasn't rape. Did I ever hurt you? Did I beat you?â⬠For a moment, I was so stunned that I couldn't even speak. ââ¬Å"Youâ⬠¦you're serious, aren't you? You really believe that? You saw what I was able to do to help yours! With your power and my ingenuity-ââ¬Å" ââ¬Å"Ingenuity?â⬠I cried. I would have laughed if it wasn't all so horrible. ââ¬Å"You have none! You've got a tiny bit more technological know-how than the average gentry, but everything else you stole from humans. You traded it in exchange for these girls' self-respect. You didn't even have the balls to kidnap from your own people!â⬠Again, much like when he'd raped me, I wished he'd be more belligerent. This idyllic, faux love was worse. It made everything he'd done to me worse. I could feel my temper surging, anger racing through me. I could hardly see because of my fury. Or maybe it was the blood loss. Odder still was a strange shift in the air, a cooling off. It had been humid and stuffy before, but it was definitely cooler now. Not in the way that heralded a Volusian appearance but something different altogether that I couldn't quite put my finger on. ââ¬Å"I won't do it again, I swear. If that's what you want, if that's what'll make you happy and let us be togetherâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ He took a step toward me, and I fired a warning shot that just cleared his arm and hit the cupboard behind him. He promptly stopped moving, face going paler still. ââ¬Å"Don't move!â⬠I screamed. ââ¬Å"Don't even think about touching me.â⬠I still couldn't believe it, still couldn't believe he was going on like this. I kept thinking about what it had been like in bed with him, that forcing and total violation of my body. Once more, there was a slight shift in the air, and I realized what it was. The barometric pressure. I didn't know how I knew, but I did. It was dropping. Rapidly. Ozone wafted through the air. ââ¬Å"I love you,â⬠he said in a small voice. ââ¬Å"You are a self-centered, fucking asshole rapist,â⬠I replied evenly. ââ¬Å"And I-I am the Thorn Queen.â⬠As the words left my mouth, I suddenly understood what Dorian had meant about me needing to believe I was queen. In that moment, I did. And a person like Leith did not do something like that to someone like me. ââ¬Å"I'm the Thorn Queen,â⬠I repeated. Now the air stirred, around us, causing the curtains to flutter and a few things to fall off the counter. ââ¬Å"And you are going to pay for what you've done.â⬠ââ¬Å"Eugenie, stop. Put the gun down.â⬠I lifted my eyes from Leith's cringing form, and this time, I did laugh-but it was more of a choking sound. Kiyo, Dorian, and Roland stood in the entrance to the kitchen. My saviors. After leaving that front door open when Art had come home, it was like anyone could just traipse right in. ââ¬Å"Jesus Christ,â⬠I said. ââ¬Å"You guys are a little too late.â⬠It was Kiyo who had spoken, his face tense and worried. ââ¬Å"Everyone needs to calm down. You got him, Eugenie. It's over. Put the gun away now.â⬠Roland was tense too, his face unreadable as he stood with his own gun. Beside him, Dorian didn't seem overly worried, but there was none of that usual laughter on his face. ââ¬Å"You don't know what he's done,â⬠I growled. ââ¬Å"You keep talking about mercy, but at some point it has to end. He needs to die.â⬠The wind grew stronger. Some of my hair whipped in my face, but I had no free hand to brush it aside. ââ¬Å"I didn't do anything!â⬠exclaimed Leith. He looked to the other men, face desperate and pleading. ââ¬Å"I won her fairly. You know how it is. Back in the old days, that's how it was. The man who caught the queen became king. If she's pregnant, she's my common-law wife.â⬠I saw disgust on Roland's face, his hand tightening on the gun. He started to lift it, but Kiyo, still apparently the spokesperson, made a small motion that caused my stepfather to lower the gun back down. Slightly. ââ¬Å"That tradition is like a thousand years old,â⬠Kiyo told Lieth. ââ¬Å"It means nothing anymore. She's not yours.â⬠ââ¬Å"Besides,â⬠I said, my gaze back on Lieth. ââ¬Å"Do you really think I'd have your baby if I didn't want to? If I'm pregnant, it's an easy problem to fix.â⬠His mouth dropped open. ââ¬Å"You wouldn'tâ⬠¦that's blasphemousâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ And indeed it was among the child-hungry gentry. Abortion was nothing I relished either, but there was no way on this earth I would bear a child born of such brutality. A gust of wind suddenly picked up considerably, nearly knocking me over. The kitchen window shattered. Kiyo was still unmoved. ââ¬Å"Eugenie, stop it. Stop the magic. Put the gun down. We'll take him and the girls back. We'll deal with him in the Otherworld.â⬠ââ¬Å"How can you say that?â⬠I shouted. ââ¬Å"You heard him! How can you let him walk after all this? You don't know what he's done!â⬠ââ¬Å"He doesn't necessarily have to go free,â⬠argued Kiyo. ââ¬Å"There are other ways.â⬠A blinding flash suddenly burst in the kitchen, leaving me dazzled and unable to see for a moment. At the same instance, there was a crackling roar, so loud that I thought my eardrums would burst. And like that, the means to control lightning clicked in my brain. I understood the patterns, what I needed to summon it-and how to work my emotion into it as Ysabel had said. I set the gun on the counter. ââ¬Å"I don't need this,â⬠I told Leith. The wind was roaring around us now, knocking objects everywhere, blowing my hair like a cloud of fire. I was the center of the storm. A very, very faint roll of thunder-nowhere near as loud as the last one-sounded around us. I turned my gaze to Leith, wondering if my violet eyes had darkened the way Storm King's had when angry. ââ¬Å"I'm going to suck the air from you and then blast you out of existence with lightning.â⬠Leith sank to his knees. ââ¬Å"Pleaseâ⬠¦please don't do thisâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ The same words I'd uttered to him the first time he'd assaulted me. The storm raged more strongly around me. ââ¬Å"I'm the Storm Queen,â⬠I said in a low voice. ââ¬Å"And you will pay for what you've done to me.â⬠Kiyo took a step forward. I knew him well enough to guess his thoughts. He was considering attacking me but too greatly feared what I could do with the magic as it grew stronger and stronger. He made one last desperate plea. ââ¬Å"If you care anything about your people-about those girls-you won't do this. He's a prince. You kill him, and his mother will declare war on you. You think the drought was bad? Imagine armies sweeping in and devastating your land. Villages burned. Innocent people killed. Is that what you want? Can you do that to them?â⬠Around us, the storm raged, and within me, my hate for Leith was a storm of its own, a poison running through my veins. I wanted him to suffer. I wanted him blighted. I wanted him dead. He could not be allowed to be free of his sins. And yetâ⬠¦somewhere in all that hate, all that fury, Kiyo's words penetrated. Is that what you want? Can you do that to them? I stared at Leith for several more heavy seconds. And then, bit by bit, the storm began to recede. No more lightning. The wind faded. Clouds vaporized. The pressure rose to levels similar to those outside. Leith sagged in relief, and I noticed how ragged my breathing was from the exertion of such power. ââ¬Å"No,â⬠I said softly, feeling all the energy run out of me. I was tired. So, so tired. ââ¬Å"I don't want a war. Iâ⬠¦I can't unleash something like that.â⬠Then, for the first time so far, Dorian spoke. ââ¬Å"I can,â⬠he said. And before anyone really realized what was happening, he strode across the kitchen. His sword came out from its sheath, brilliant and deadly in the light, and he plunged it straight into Leith's body. The Rowan Prince stiffened, eyes going wide, as Dorian pushed the blade further into Leith's stomach. Time stood still for all of us. I don't think anyone-well, except for Dorian-really believed it had happened. A moment later, Dorian jerked the sword out in one swift, harsh motion. Leith's body fell to the ground. Dorian had used the new sword, I realized, the iron-laced one Girard had made. Blood poured out from where it had impaled Leith, as well as from his lips. It was a hundred times worse than the mess Art had left, and as that deep red liquid pooled and pooled, a bizarre image of blooming roses floated across my mind. I wondered if I was going to pass out. Kiyo surged forward, like he might save Leith, but we all knew it was too late. The prince was already dead. Kiyo turned to Dorian in rage. ââ¬Å"What have you done?â⬠Dorian's face was calm, voice smooth as he slid the sword-blood and all-back into its sheath. ââ¬Å"What you should have done.â⬠Kiyo stared at Dorian, who returned the gaze squarely. Kiyo's face was a mixture of many things: outrage, shock, fear. ââ¬Å"You have no idea what you've doneâ⬠¦what you've unleashedâ⬠¦what you've unleashed on herâ⬠¦.â⬠Dorian glanced down at Leith's body, then Art's, and then back to Leith. The look of contempt on his face clearly showed just how beneath his acknowledgment they were. They were not even worth his notice, not even worth regarding as people as far as Dorian was concerned. He looked back up at Kiyo. ââ¬Å"I know what I've done. And do you think I'd really abandon her to the consequences? Leave her alone to them? Besidesâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ A wry smirk crossed Dorian's face. ââ¬Å"I'm the one who did it. I'm the one Katrice will come after.â⬠Kiyo shook his head. ââ¬Å"No. She'll come after both of you. You shouldn't have done it.â⬠After what felt like an eternity, my voice had finally come back to me. I wet my lips, trying to speak. ââ¬Å"Maybe,â⬠I whispered. ââ¬Å"Maybe he should haveâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ Silence fell over us all, thick and heavy. Kiyo gave me a lookâ⬠¦I couldn't fully interpret it. ââ¬Å"You're in shock. You don't what you're saying. We'll get you and the girls back to the Otherworld. Art's records might show us how to track the others.â⬠I looked back and forth between his and Dorian's faces. I wouldn't go so far as to say I hated all men, exactly, but suddenly, I just couldn't be with either of them, even though I loved them both. Plus, at the moment, I didn't want anything to do with the Otherworld. I shook my head. ââ¬Å"No. Take the girlsâ⬠¦I'm not going.â⬠Dorian arched an eyebrow. ââ¬Å"What will you do?â⬠I turned toward Roland for the first time in a while. He still had his gun, but it was lowered now. He'd been ready to attack the whole time but had been content to let the other two men take the lead in this. Later, I would have to find out how this motley crew had banded together. Right nowâ⬠¦right now I was more concerned with the look on Roland's face. He was regarding me like he didn't know me. I felt a piece of my heart break. ââ¬Å"I wantâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ And to my shame, I felt tears burn in my eyes, which was just stupid. Throughout this entire week, I'd never cried. I'd taken it all straight-faced. I'd fought and killed today without remorse. Nowâ⬠¦now it was like a lifetime of sorrow was coming out of me. ââ¬Å"I want to go home,â⬠I said. The tears escaped, running down my cheeks. ââ¬Å"I want to see my mom.â⬠For a second, I thought Roland was going to turn away, condemn me as the half-gentry he'd always feared I would turn into, the one who'd lied to him about her involvement in the Otherworld. I think if he had turned away, I would have died then and there. Instead, he held out his hand. I couldn't actually bring myself to take it. I didn't think I could let anyone touch me right now. Effective communication Essay
Describe situations where you have effectively demonstrated each of the forms of communication mentioned Effective communication is an important part of my job role. On a daily basis I need to communicate with various different people. Firstly, I have to collect the information from various parts of our organisation, this is normally done over email, however on some occasions this requires further explanation and this would be done over the telephone or face to face. Once the information is prepared, I distribute this via emails, internally to the managers to review. Once this has been reviewed by the management team, I then distribute this externally to the client. What did you do to help communicate effectively? I send out the ââ¬Ëraw dataââ¬â¢ to the client each week, however I then send out a pack that summarises the figures in a clear and precise format. For the period review, the data is put into a PowerPoint presentation. The client gets a copy of the slides that we discuss. We discuss each meeting whether anything should be changed going forward. There have been occasions we have gone into more detail, and others where we have summarised as the client is happy with the figures behind this. How have your communication skills helped you to improve your performance elsewhere? The effective communication in this particular example has increased my confidence in certain areas. I also think that by asking for feedback regularly, I can ensure I am reporting exactly what people want to see in the formats they want too. I have applied this to other areas of my job role.

Time and Place Professor Ramos Blog
Time and Place In ââ¬Å"There was a Man, There Was a Womanâ⬠, Sandra Cisneros tells a short story about a man and a woman whose schedules are different but still have a chance in interacting. Every second and fourth Friday of the month, the man would get paid and the first and third Friday of every month, the woman would get paid. On their Fridayââ¬â¢s, they would go to a Friendly Spot Bar to drink with their friends. The man would drink and drink in hopes of saying everything he was feeling, but that never happened. He simply just drank. The same exact thing happened with the woman. They would both laugh loudly in the bar. At night when they both went to their homes, they had different reactions while looking and thinking of the same moon. When the woman looked up at the moon with her pale eyes, she cried. When the man was observing the moon, he saw and thought of ââ¬Å"those who had worshiped or loved died before that same moon, mute and lovely. The lives of these two people were the sa me but different timing. Assumptions are made and things are put into perspective for the reader. Will they ever meet? Are they soulmates? Do they already know each other but purposely have different schedules for a reason? A friend of the woman knew every side and expression the woman made. It was impossible to never figure out what the woman had been going through. The friend could read the woman so easily because of all the years of friendship they shared. The friend knew the woman better than her own self. The friend and woman met in high school because they had biology class together and didnââ¬â¢t know anyone else. They shared lots of personal information and happened to be neighbors so they spent a lot of time at each others houses. ââ¬Å"You coming over?â⬠ââ¬Å"Yeah, Iââ¬â¢m already on my wayâ⬠were the lines they said everyday. When they graduated high school, the friend went to a university and the woman went to the army. They tried to stay in contact because the friendship they had was like no other. They always had topics to talk about because one story would lead to another and so on. When they met, their souls danced together and time went by so fast. When the moon would shine through the windows they knew it was time to go home. After six months in the army, the woman had come home but the friend did not recognize her. ââ¬Å"What happened?â⬠the friend would ask her. ââ¬Å"Nothing, Iââ¬â¢m fineâ⬠said the woman all serious. The woman was there but not entirely. The friend knew that she had seen horrible things because her eyes didnââ¬â¢t shine like they used to, she was quiet and she always came up with excuses to be alone. The friend helped her cope with the womanââ¬â¢s depression and after a couple of years, she was recovering. She got a new job, they moved to a different city, and went to a friendly bar twice a month with other friends just to have a break from everything going on. ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢m tired of not feeling like myself and I want to get back out there.â⬠said the woman to her friends. They went to the bar for months and the woman still felt a little empty on the inside and wanted to let go of everything that was eating up her mind. She would drink in hopes of the wor ds being easier to come out but everytime she had the thoughts and images in her head all at once, she would swallow the words away. The woman hid that for the longest time that her friend didnââ¬â¢t even notice. When the woman would go home, she would stare up at the moon and think about all the things that she has gone through. Of course her friend always stuck by her side but the one thing that hit home was the intimate feeling she shared with the moon. The same moon every night, her whole life. She would vented to the moon because her secrets were safe and she liked the idea of the moon not judging, just listening. It would stay until she fell asleep so she found comfort knowing there was a form of good energy still with her. She would cry to the moon after coming home from the bar because those were the nights where she wants to say what she was feeling but couldnââ¬â¢t. A year later, the bar was having its tenth anniversary and to celebrate they were going to host a karaoke night along with the alcohol being at half price so you already know lots of people were going to show up. The woman and her friends got to the bar around nine at night. The man and his friends went as well and got to the bar around ten at night. The owner of the bar loved to bring people together to have a good time agnd to creative precious memories. Her bar was a break from reality to everyone. The bar was a whole different environment because of all the exotic culture and neon lights. The bar was underground so it was alive all night. The owner was always happy and said ââ¬Å"Welcome darlings! Join and feel free!â⬠The music moved everyone even if you didnââ¬â¢t consuming anything. The power of the atmosphere was real. On the night of karaoke, lots of people arrived and you could feel the energy flow throughout your body. The woman was feeling bliss and with her friends by her side, it was such a bittersweet moment because she was sad the moment was going to end but happy that it was happening. The man was not feeling very excited even with his friends by his side. He would drink until he thought he had the courage to express himself but sadly, that feeling of expression never came out. He had been feeling empty and alone for a while now. After ending a relationship of three years, he didnââ¬â¢t think he could find real love again. His significant other started to show some red flags and the man knew better to end the relationship although it was going to hurt. The man walked around the bar with his friends and when the man turned around to go back for another drink, there she wasâ⬠¦ the woman. They locked eyes the moment they saw each other and everything was slow motion and the background suddenly appeared brighter like in the movies. They were like magnets because they were slowly walking towards each other without even knowing it. When they both snapped out of it they immediately started to converse. Of course they were a little shy at first and they even choked on their words. The man started off with ââ¬Å"Sorry to creep on you like thatâ⬠and the woman disagreed because she felt the same way. ââ¬Å"No worries, are you from around here?â⬠the woman said with a big smile on her face. The conversation took flight from here as you could imagine. They explained to each other their schedule and were moved because they had been going to the same places but different times for a long time. Already off to a good start, the man kindly said ââ¬Å"You wanna go dance?â⬠and the woman happily agreed.à After a long night of dancing and laughing, they both went home and without even knowing it, they were looking at the moon. Quietly speaking into existence and giving thanks for the day. The woman felt peace thinking maybe heââ¬â¢s the one. The man felt peace thinking maybe sheââ¬â¢s the one.
